Darkness at Noon

I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope
For hope would be hope for the wrong thing; wait without love,
For love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
But the faith and the love and the hope are all in the waiting.
Wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought:
So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.

T. S. Eliot, East Coker

Artist notes:

Memories haunt, returning in secret waves. Images float, edge in and out of focus, the black and white of grainy photographs recording passage, movement.

The world on the move from one place to another. Tidal. Necessary. Natural. Part of the whole. Because this is the story. The story of people, as movement.

People moving across the continents, across the waters; effecting change, effecting momentum; forcing the future to arrive, forcing the present to retreat. This is the story.

This ceaseless movement, the search for the future in the present; for life, elsewhere.
