Figures in a Landscape 2022

Earth star, base root, third eye.
Why then are we not healed?
We do not know the way home.
We relived all those days, days we couldn't remember.
We're trapped between two worlds, we said.
We’re trapped between two seasons.

Artist notes:

Often in the face of life’s moments, the ones that undo us, gesture is the only response. Gesture being that fundamental language of expression universal to all beings. Gesture lives in the body, in the muscle of reflex, the bone of emotion especially raw emotion- the emotion of loss, grief, and the visceral dismay at disempowerment.  The words that sit beside gesture are those gathered into poems. Verbal language made into gesture. And so it was the opening line to William Cody’s poem that kept repeating itself as I faced the inevitable.

They told me, Heraclitus, they told me you were dead…
